UPDATE: Poland’s Weglokoks denies plans to import coal from Russia

(Adds details throughout)

WARSAW, Jun 27 (PRIME) -- Poland’s Weglokoks has no plans to import coal from Russia, the company said in a statement on Tuesday following a report by newspaper Rzeczpospolita that it plans to do so due to the lack of own production.

“There are many possible directions of coal imports. They are currently being analyzed, but preliminary understanding of the markets already shows that Russia will not be the source of imports,” the company said.

Poland produces 80,000–110,000 tonnes of coal daily, but needs 150,000 tonnes. As a result, Poland can have an up to 5 million tonne shortage in 2017, the newspaper reported.
